Jeff in front of the Hofbrahaus
The next morning, we took off for the near by Dachau Concentration Camp. It was rainy and wet, but we were very glad we braved the weather. This is the entrance that the prisoners walked through. The words above the door translate to "work makes you free"....which they didn't really mean, of course.
The courtyard at the camp where roll call was done twice daily. The black iron monument is a memorial for the prisoners.
After Dachau, we got back to Munich and it was wet and rainy still. Instead of touring, we went to the Museum of Transportation - right up Jeff's alley...although I had a great time myself! You can see me playing with some of the engine mechanisms here.
That night, we went to an authentic beer garden, a local one. There was a guy playing music and singing in German. In between songs, he would tell jokes in German. There was a couple of guys sitting across from us and after a while they invited us over. It was a German guy and a Russian guy, who was there on business. The German translated the jokes for us and we had some interesting conversation in English! It was fun! We also met a couple of Americans, a mother/daughter combo, and the mom had met the daughter in Germany, while the daughter was studying in England. We were chatting most of the night!
We made it home!!! The flight was long, and we were diverted to Cincinnati to sit on the plane for 3 hours while storms cleared...we made it home finally around 10pm. Its good to be home but it was a great trip!! We have a busy weekend ahead of us, and then to the UP on Tuesday for a few weeks!! I will post pictures soon from the trip, although probably not until after the 4th of July when things slow down...
